Zecevic: Kurti will not give up the policy of Kosovo without CSM until the USA and the EU apply serious sanctions

Slobodan Zecevic, an analyst at the Institute for European Studies, tells for Kosovo Online that by continuing to ignore the demands of the US and the EU to de-escalate the situation in the north, Albin Kurti "shows primal, ideological, Albanian nationalism, as well as an obvious intention not to implement the Brussels Agreement". He also points out that Kurti can allow himself to do this as long as the EU and the USA do not impose serious sanctions.

"Kurti is absolutely stubborn in his maximalist visions. Kosovo under his control, Kosovo without the Community of Serbian Municipalities, maybe Kosovo without Serbs after all, that is his maximalist nationalist ideology and idea," Zecevic said.

However, as Zecevic adds, Kurti can allow himself to do this until the EU and the USA start seriously dealing with him in the sense that they start seriously threatening sanctions and implementing certain sanctions against the Albanians in Kosovo.

"Because they have no life without American help," he explains.

Zecevic emphasizes that it is now obvious that Kurti does not want the Brussels Agreement to be implemented.

As he says, it is now up to the Western world, that is, the USA, to take further steps.

"We assumed that, but it was necessary to try to make an agreement at all costs, an agreement to avoid conflicts. I think that when it comes to Kurti, without some big, really big pressure from the West, nothing will come of the agreement", concludes Zecevic.

Today, Kurti was also at the session of the General Council of the Self-Determination Movement, which he headed, again talking about the "unfinished project of the League of Prizren", indicating that "the unification of Albanians is the main goal".

To the requests of the US and the EU to withdraw Kosovo special forces from municipal buildings in the north of Kosovo, not to impose illegal Albanian mayors and start the formation of the Community of Serbian Municipalities, Kurti responded with messages that "Kosovo stands behind the democratic values of the US and the EU and that the situation in the north can calm down only by stopping the violence against the police, KFOR and mayors".
