Residents of Gracanica expect improvement after the elections in Serbia

Residents of Gracanica, following the parliamentary elections in Serbia and the victory of the Serbian Progressive Party, expect the continuation of the fight for Kosovo, calming tensions in the north, and improvement.

Radmila Mijkovic says that everyone is hopeful for improvement, but that it depends solely on the political leadership.

"It is natural for every person to hope for something better, but how much better it will be for us here depends not so much on us but on the leadership," she noted.

Zoran Ilic expects the situation in the north to be resolved, which, he says, will also impact a better life for Serbs south of the Ibar River.

"There should be an improvement in the lives of Serbs in Kosovo, addressing the issue of license plates, bringing back those who were illegitimately elected in the north to Pristina, and having Serbs return to institutions and be distributed in Zvecan, Mitrovica, and where needed," he stated.

Another resident of Gracanica says that the government in Serbia so far has been good, but that it is facing significant pressure from around the world.

"Hopefully, there will be some improvement. Our government has been good; what can Vucic do, there is great pressure on him," he said.

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic announced yesterday that the "Serbia Must Not Stop" list had received 74% of the votes from Kosovo Serbs in the elections.

Residents of the Kosovo administrative district, including residents of Gracanica, voted yesterday in Raca near Kursumlija due to the decision of the government in Pristina to prohibit the holding of Serbian elections in Kosovo.
