Gerxhaliu: Emigration of young people from Kosovo worrying trend
Despite the fact that Kosovo is very close to visa liberalization, many citizens do not hesitate to contact foreign embassies to obtain a visa. Safet Gerxhaliu, an expert on economic issues, believes that migration is concerning, Ekonomia Online reports.
Gerxhaliu says that not only unemployed people or social cases are leaving Kosovo.
"The migration or flight of young people from Kosovo is a worrying phenomenon that has become a trend, and the truth must be said that it is not only the unemployed or social cases who are fleeing from Kosovo. There are several categories of people who flee – the unemployed, social cases, but also those who lose hope of being able to live in Kosovo. I believe it's time to deal with this phenomenon," Gerxhaliu says.
Gerxhaliu points out that there must be economic stability in Kosovo in order to prevent the further departure of people.
"Political stability is indeed a priority that must be achieved, and without political stability, there is no economic development either, and if we do not have economic development, then the perspective is lost. Therefore, it is a phenomenon that must be solved and must not be neglected. Who can guarantee that there will be 800,000 people in Kosovo in 2030 or 2035 if this exodus continues, with close to 60,000 people legally leaving Kosovo each year?" Gerxhaliu concluded.
