Hoti: Joint projects are of key importance for young Serbs and Albanians

Professor of International Relations at the University of Pristina, Afrim Hoti, believes that projects connecting young Serbs and Albanians in Kosovo are the key to change, but that obstacles still exist, created by politics.
“I think this is of crucial importance,” says Hoti when asked about the existence of trust among youth.
“From personal experience, I see no difference, because I have students coming from both Albanian and Serbian backgrounds — not in Kosovo, but in other countries. When we speak privately, I don’t see any difference, including in communication, studying, private life — everything is quite the same,” Hoti emphasizes.
However, the picture changes at the official level.
“That’s when a certain reluctance can be noticed on both sides. Unfortunately, this is the result of obstacles created by politics,” he explains.
Hoti believes it is essential to invest in projects that bring young people together, regardless of who initiates them.
“We need to move toward new projects. It doesn’t matter whether those projects are supported by national or international institutions. I am one hundred percent sure that, if such a project exists, it will have implications and positive effects for young people in Kosovo and in Serbia,” Hoti concludes.
