The laying of wreaths on the monument to the victims of Zvecan citizens who were killed in the period from 1998 to 2001 marked the day when the bombing of FR Yugoslavia began.

Zvecan citizens and family members of the victims laid wreaths and paid their respects to the victims. During the KLA attack and as a result of the NATO bombing, 13 citizens of that municipality were killed over a three-year period.

Momcilo Gvozdic, the representative of the Zvecan municipality, reminded that NATO bombarded Yugoslavia with all its might for 78 days, with different bombs and even depleted uranium. During that time, he pointed out, 2,500 civilians, 89 children, and 1,031 soldiers were killed, and 6,000 civilians, 2,700 children, and 5,173 soldiers were wounded, while 25 people are still missing today.

"They used a large number of weapons to commit that terrible crime, and a large number of bombs were thrown, among other things, 420,000 missiles and 40,000 cluster bombs. From the Zvecan municipality territory, 13 people died, which is a large number for our small municipality. For the families who lost their loved ones, it is an irreparable loss. It is our obligation that they are never forgotten because they suffered only because they were Serbs and because they were defending their country," Gvozdic said.

He emphasized that the powerful had committed "a great crime against our small country where a proud people lives, who do not kneel and pray."

"That's why I don't know if we will be able to forgive them, but we will never forget. We must remember with pride all our fallen people, their heroic deeds because they gave the most valuable thing they had – their lives – for the freedom of our country," Gvozdic said.
