Radojevic on the tournament near the Milic brothers square: Mockery of innocent victims
Near the Milic Brothers Square in North Mitrovica, preparations are underway for a 3x3 basketball tournament announced for today by the Municipality of North Mitrovica. Member of the Presidency of the Serb List, Milan Radojevic, told Kosovo Online that organizing such a tournament on a square dedicated to young men who were innocently killed during the 1999 war is a mockery of Serbian victims and of the innocent people who lost their lives.
The square is located near the main bridge on the Ibar, and at the moment there were no organizers present on site.
The planned tournament has met with disapproval from Serbs in the north, who see the event as a provocation and yet another form of pressure on the Serbian community.
Radojevic said they were horrified to hear that a basketball tournament was being organized on the Milic Brothers Square, which is dedicated to the memory of innocent Serbian youths killed in the 1999 war.
“Organizing such a tournament is a mockery of Serbian victims and of the innocent people who perished in this area. This is especially true considering that it is being organized by an illegitimate and illegal mayor who, in the last days of his mandate, is using the opportunity to sow division and hatred among the residents of North Mitrovica,” Radojevic stated.
He stressed that they are appealing to the international community to prevent the tournament from taking place.
“We call on the international community to react and stop the holding of this tournament, given that this is also a political misuse of children and the organization of an event with music and entertainment in a place dedicated to the suffering of Serbs in this region. We call for the pain, suffering, and sacrifice of Serbs in this area to be respected, that the tournament be removed from this location, and that the international community act urgently,” Radojevic said.
