Shahini: Kosovo will have the most expensive electricity in the entire Balkans
The President of the Alliance for Kosovo Businesses, Agim Shahini, commented on the announced 15% increase in electricity prices, stating that Kosovo will become the leader in the Balkans with the highest electricity costs.
Shahini believes that the newly announced price increase will be unbearable for the people of Kosovo.
“It has been announced that electricity will become 15% more expensive. We will be the champions of the Balkans with the highest electricity prices. This increase directly affects businesses, citizens, and consumers. During election campaigns, they always promised a better standard of living, but afterward, electricity prices started to rise. Kosovo is still among the poorest countries in the Balkans, and while we have a decent standard in terms of prices, our wages remain low. Consumers will not be able to bear this increase. I believe the Government has approved the price hike,” Shahini said.
He added that the Kosovo Government lacks a strategy to lift the country out of poverty.
“We must develop a strategy to get out of this crisis. There is plenty of money in the budget, but it is not being spent. The Government should invest in infrastructure projects, subsidies for citizens, increase the number of workers in entrepreneurship, and raise salaries. That would improve the standard of living. As things stand now, we are in a crisis and will remain in a crisis. Perhaps the citizens are responsible, as they voted for those who govern Kosovo, and if they believe things are fine as they are, then we will continue in this direction,” Shahini concluded.
