Attorney Milos Delevic, who represented Milan Jovanovic – the Serb who was shot by a Kosovo police officer at the Bistrica checkpoint, says he is satisfied with the verdict because the primary goal was to prove the truth.

"We are satisfied with the verdict of the Basic Court in North Mitrovica. Pepaj was sentenced to three years in prison, while the others were acquitted. Our primary goal in this criminal case was to prove the truth – that Milan Jovanovic was shot at the Bistrica checkpoint and that Korab Pepaj shot him. The severity of the sentence was not our primary goal, and whether we will appeal the decision regarding the sentence will be decided in agreement with the injured party, Jovanovic. This verdict must serve as a warning to all police officers working in Kosovo; they cannot take justice into their own hands, and their arbitrariness must be limited," he said.

Judge Mentor Hojra of the Basic Court in North Mitrovica read the verdict today in this case, where the defendant Korab Pepaj was sentenced to three years in prison.
