Zivkovic: The lowest electricity prices for citizens in the north of Kosovo
"Elektrosever" company exists solely for the citizens of the four municipalities in the north of Kosovo, and they need to be confident and know that our goal is their stable supply of electricity, as well as all other citizens we supply. Together, we can overcome all these initial challenges, which is why it is important for them to trust in Elektrosever's operations," says Dusan Zivkovic, the acting general director of EPS.
The first bills from "Elektrosever" have arrived, given that there had been no electricity payments for years, so the citizens are now confused. Can you explain what's happening with the bills?
In line with the agreement in Brussels, EPS established the company "Elektrosever" which has been supplying citizens in the four municipalities in Northern Kosovo and Metohija since January 1. What sets "Elekstrosever" apart from others and shows its business policy and commitment to the citizens in the north of Kosovo and Metohija is the price of electricity, which is 5% lower than any other supplier. This electricity price is also the most favorable in the region. An additional advantage is the lowest price for energy consumption up to 800 kilowatt-hours per month, which is more than double compared to the green zone anywhere else. In addition, the same price is offered to business owners like bakeries, craft, and retail stores so that their businesses are not exposed to the risks of higher prices that small economies usually have. Regarding the bills, a preliminary bill was sent in February as a kind of invitation for those who want to have a contract with "Elektrosever," and after meter readings, a final bill was sent. We are fully aware of all the challenges we face on the ground, from old meters to a database that has not been updated for more than two decades. In such circumstances, it's not easy for anyone, which is why we continuously invite citizens to contact "Elektrosever" so we can jointly resolve any doubts about each bill and together create conditions for long-term cooperation.
Citizens complain that the bills they received are unrealistic and do not reflect the actual situation. How many complaints have been received at "Elektrosever"?
About 50 complaints about the amount of consumption have been received, each carefully checked, and in some cases, corrections have already been made. Each complaint will be fully considered, and only through mutual trust can we achieve our common goal. On the other hand, we will try to explain to the citizens how to use electricity more rationally, especially in the winter months, as many of them heat their homes with electricity.
There are complaints about old, uncalibrated meters. How will you address this?
The goal is for "Elektrosever" to follow the path of modernization and digitalization of its business, and the delivery of 5,000 new, smart meters has already begun. Installation of more than 1,100 meters is starting in the field these days. The priority is those who do not have meters and who are now paying the amount of average consumption in the four municipalities in northern Kosovo and Metohija; then the replacement of old meters will follow so that eventually, all consumers will have smart meters. Therefore, a donation of 20,000 new meters has been secured from the European Union.
Some citizens say they are ready to turn their backs on "Elektrosever" and sign a contract with a company from Pristina because of unrealistic bills. Is that a rational stance?
Based on everything they have endured so far and the conditions offered by other suppliers, I am deeply convinced that would be a risky, hasty, and unnecessary decision. It is important that the supply of the north remains in the hands of a Serbian company. As the Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said, "Elektrosever" exists because of and for the citizens, and the state will continue to help our people. It is important that they trust and can count on their state and secure supply, as has been the case in the past.
What is your message to consumers in Leposavic, Zvecan, Kosovska Mitrovica, and Zubin Potok?
It is now important that people sign contracts with "Elektrosever" without fear of consequences. Through mutual understanding, joint work, and absolute tolerance, we will remove all technical obstacles. Sustainable business operations of the company are in mutual interest, which will bring new investments, secure jobs, and I believe, the opportunity for professional development of new generations in the increasingly digital world we live in. "Elektrosever" is here to be a service for citizens who are satisfied with the service, price, and relationship.
