Alija: Albania and Kosovo ask the Specialist Chambers to make a decision based on credible evidence

The Assembly of Kosovo recently adopted a resolution requesting the Specialist Chambers and the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office in The Hague to conduct a fair trial against former KLA leaders, and the Albanian parliament did the same, while attorney Amer Alija from the Humanitarian Law Center believes that in this way, Pristina and Tirana have provided full support to the defendants in The Hague.

“This is, in a way, support for members of the KLA, and a request that human rights be respected in the proceedings conducted before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague”, Alija told Kosovo Online.

He views the mentioned resolutions in the Kosovo and Albanian parliaments primarily as a request that the decision in The Hague be made on the basis of credible evidence.

“It is above all a declaration that human rights are respected, and when we hear statements from politicians and everyone else, they give full support to the defendants being tried in The Hague”, Alija states.

Before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague, on Wednesday the defendants also delivered their closing statements – Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi, and Rexhep Selimi. The former KLA leaders once again rejected all allegations in the indictment and requested an acquittal.
