Based on statements from opposition party representatives, the likelihood of a new government led by Glauk Konjufca being elected is almost nonexistent, says political analyst Artan Alijaj, who believes that the local elections did not help Konjufca in any way.

“I don’t think the local election process helped Konjufca in any way to be elected as Kosovo’s new prime minister. Based on what we still hear from the main opposition parties, they say there is no chance of cooperation with Self-Determination in forming a new government and that they want elections as soon as possible. We will see. There might be some movement, but judging by statements from opposition parties, the likelihood of a new government being elected with Konjufca at its head is almost zero,” Alijaj told Kosovo Online.

Regarding the situation with the disputed ballots in South Mitrovica, Alijaj said that the final outcome must be awaited.

“We have heard many complaints from the Democratic Party of Kosovo about irregularities in the process. There were cases of ballots with different serial numbers, so we have to wait and see the final outcome, what the Central Election Commission will say, and whether the DPK will take further steps in the appeals process, perhaps even appealing to the Supreme Court,” Alijaj explained.

Commenting on the resignation of DPK leader Memli Krasniqi from his position as party president, Alijaj said it would be logical to assume that it is related to the local elections, although he does not believe the DPK’s result was bad.

“Krasniqi explained his resignation. We will see how the process unfolds within the party. Perhaps he should have waited for the possible announcement of early elections and then made that move. From what I’ve heard, people in the DPK want the party leader to also be the candidate for prime minister. Krasniqi himself insists that Bedri Hamza should become the new DPK leader. Considering that we have heard similar views in the past from other members of the DPK Presidency, it seems there are many who want Hamza to take the helm of the party. And perhaps that will be the change they want before the next early elections,” Alijaj added.
