Political analyst from Tirana Ben Andoni stated that the recent protest in support of former KLA leaders on trial at the Specialized Chambers in Kosovo, based in The Hague, showed a “confused reaction” from political parties in Pristina and gives the impression that the Self-Determination Movement is against revising the case against Hashim Thaci.

“The situation in Kosovo, especially after what is happening with Thaci’s trial, has become significantly complicated, particularly due to the very confused reactions from the political spectrum in the country. It seems that the Self-Determination Movement, compared to other parties, LDK, AAK, and PDK, is against revising the case of the KLA leader in The Hague,” Andoni said.

Commenting on the protest, which was also supported by leaders of Albanians from North Macedonia and Albania, Andoni pointed out that the attitude of Kosovo’s institutions toward this court is worrying.

“The biggest problem is how to interpret this position: the resistance of Kosovo and the way the government should act toward the KLA and the specialized court that Kosovo’s institutions approved,” Andoni emphasized.

He also identified another, no less significant, problem: the fact that even the families of those on trial in The Hague, who belong to the leading party, the Self-Determination Movement, did not participate in the protest.

“For example, the wife of Rexhep Selimi, one of the four accused in The Hague and a Self-Determination MP, did not take part in the protest. This situation has arisen because of the major political conflicts occurring in Kosovo, but the fact remains that Kosovo is facing a court it itself created,” Andoni said.
