Bisevac: They want to intimidate and drive the Serbs out of Kosovo in every possible way

Member of the Presidency of the Serb List Nemanja Bisevac stated that the events organized in North Mitrovica in the past period, against the will of the Serbian people, were aimed at intimidating and driving the Serb population out of Kosovo, especially from the north.

Bisevac told Kurir TV that the rule of the current mayors in the north has come to an end.

“This is simply the end of the rule of the current mayors. They want by all possible means to intimidate and expel the Serbian people from Kosovo and Metohija, particularly from the north. Pressure on sports and culture has been ongoing for years. Serbian clubs have been banned from entering Kosovo, while clubs from Kosovo cannot play their matches in their own towns. As for culture, we have seen the closing of libraries, cultural centers…” Bisevac recalled.

He pointed out that the situation culminated recently with the holding of a jazz festival and a basketball tournament.

He noted that the festival was attended by 12 people, including Mayor Erden Atiq and his security detail, and that there were more police officers than members of the audience.

“Because of that festival, we were prevented from organizing the traditional Mitrovica celebrations. That is a tradition of many years. We were also faced with threats that we would be arrested for protesting the presence of the mayor. But our people showed unity and a firm determination to stay,” Bisevac underlined.

Speaking about the Milic brothers, after whom the square where the basketball tournament was held is named, Bisevac reminded that they are woven into the history of North Mitrovica, as they gave their lives defending their land.

“And precisely in the area dedicated to them – Albanians organized a basketball tournament,” Bisevac remarked, ironically adding that “Albanians are known as a basketball nation.”

He also noted that there were more police officers and security guards of Kosovo’s acting Minister of Interior Xhelal Svecla than participants in the tournament.

Responding to the remark that such provocations will become more frequent, Bisevac stressed that both the Serb List and the entire Serbian people are ready for that.

“I received information that in the sports hall they are going to replace the seats – instead of red, blue, and white, they will put in green seats. Apparently, the mayors are in a hurry to destroy everything Serbian in this area. But, surely, over these three and a half years they must have learned that the Serbian people are not easily intimidated,” Bisevac concluded.
