Boricic: Nebojsa Tomasevic from Suvo Grlo released from detention, will defend himself at liberty

Nebojsa Tomasevic from Suvo Grlo was released from detention today and will defend himself at liberty in the further proceedings, attorney Nebojsa Boricic told Kosovo Online.

Boricic stated that the Supreme Court, acting on the defense’s appeal, overturned the decision of the Appellate Court ordering 30 days of detention for Tomasevic and remanded the case for reconsideration, meaning that Tomasevic will defend himself at liberty.

The attorney emphasized that he has not yet received the decision, and that it is most likely that the Appellate Court rejected the appeal of the Special Prosecution, but that the most important thing is that he is currently waiting for Tomasevic to arrive home.

Nebojsa Tomasevic was first arrested on March 1 together with four other Serbs from the same place, only to be released on March 3, but he was re-arrested by the Kosovo Police on March 13.

On March 18, the Appellate Court announced that it had accepted the appeal of the Special Prosecution and annulled the decision of the Basic Court on Tomasevic’s release, stating that the Basic Court had incorrectly assessed the decision to release him and ordered that he be placed in detention for up to 30 days.

As the family of Nebojsa Tomasevic stated at the time, he was taken away by the Kosovo Police under the explanation that he only needed to give a statement, after which he did not return home.

According to the Special Prosecution, Tomasevic, together with four other Serbs from Suvo Grlo, is suspected of war crimes against the civilian population in that place in 1998.
