Christodoulides in Belgrade: Cyprus's stance on Kosovo clear and unchanged
Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides stated that Cyprus's stance on Kosovo remained unchanged, and his country supported Serbia in preserving its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
“When it comes to the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, we support the Government of Serbia. Our position on Kosovo is clear, and it cannot be changed without respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia“, Christodoulides stated during a press conference after a meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in Belgrade.
Christodoulides thanked Serbia for its support in negotiations regarding the resolution of the 'Cyprus issue'.
The President of Cyprus expressed satisfaction with his visit to Belgrade, stating that the relations between the two countries were at a high level.
“Our relations are based on traditional ties, and there is room for further deepening, especially in the defense, education, and tourism sectors. Serbia has made significant progress, especially since you (Vucic) came to power; economic development has increased significantly in recent years“, Christodoulides assessed.
He reminded that direct flights had been established between Serbia and Cyprus, contributing significantly to the development of tourism, emphasizing that his country was open to welcoming more visitors from Serbia.
He stated that three memorandums of understanding in the fields of education, innovation, and science, as well as between the two ministries of internal affairs, would be signed during his visit to Belgrade.
He says that Serbia had taken important steps regarding reforms, which must be recognized by the EU.
"Cyprus is one of the biggest supporters of Serbia for EU integration", Christodoulides conveyed.
He invited his hosts today to visit Cyprus and expressed that the two countries would contribute to the further development of relations and progress regarding the resolution of the 'Cyprus issue' and Serbia's Eurointegration.
