Citaku: Kurti should seriously address the issue of the president

The Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Vlora Citaku, stated that the ruling party and its leader Albin Kurti must take the issue of electing the president seriously, as the deadline set by the Constitutional Court is running, Gazeta Blic reported.

She added that the Self-Determination Movement should specify its positions and extend an invitation to the Democratic Party of Kosovo.

“The leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Bedri Hamza, has participated in two meetings with the leader of Self-Determination. That party and Albin Kurti must approach the issue of the president with the seriousness and responsibility that the situation requires. We have not received any official invitation,” Citaku said, as reported by Gazeta Blic.

Commenting on the fact that no agreement was reached at the meeting of the Presidency of the Assembly of Kosovo regarding the agenda for the next session scheduled for Friday—at which the Democratic Party of Kosovo proposed a resolution on the “defense of the truth about the war”—Citaku stated that this issue should not be treated as a partisan matter and called on female MPs to support a joint text.

“The Democratic Party of Kosovo has submitted a request for the adoption of a special resolution that would address the protection of our historical past and the treatment of the victims of the last war in Kosovo. For us, this issue has never been political. Memory is not only the past. Memory is identity. Memory is the foundation upon which we, as a society, our institutions, and our state have been built. At the previous session and again today at the Presidency meeting, we insisted that MPs approve the text agreed upon by the parliamentary groups. Our MPs will contact other parliamentary groups so that we can present a united front and unanimously, in a solemn manner, vote on such a resolution and approach this national issue with the seriousness it deserves,” Citaku said, as reported by Ekonomia Online.

The head of the Democratic Party of Kosovo parliamentary group, Arian Tahiri, stated that the lack of political will prevented this item from being included on the agenda.

“There was no political will on the part of representatives of the Self-Determination Movement, and we were unable to place it as the first item on the agenda,” Tahiri said.
