Congressman Swalwell: I am not satisfied with Kurti's government's attitude toward Serbs
Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell stated to Voice of America that he expects both Belgrade and Pristina to implement what has been agreed upon, but also that, like the US Embassy in Kosovo, he is not satisfied with the treatment of Serbs by Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti's government.
"I recently issued a statement in line with the stance of the US Embassy in Kosovo, which is not pleased with the attitude toward some Serbs by Kurti's government. However, I remain fully hopeful that the agreed framework will be implemented," the California Representative in Congress said.
Swalwell also spoke about the relationship between Serbia and the US, expressing his belief that strengthening military cooperation is highly significant. He believes that the United States and Serbia have much more to offer each other than is the case with Russia or China.
"The existing and future relations between the United States and Serbia have no limits. They have been continuously developing over the past decade. Serbia has proven to be an important partner in the field of security, particularly regarding our top priority – the events in Ukraine. We need to be realistic and try to mitigate other influences. The best way to do this is through freedom, our economy, and values. These are much more aligned with Serbia than with Russia and China," Swalwell said on the day the United States and Serbia signed a strategic cooperation agreement in the field of energy.
