Costa to the citizens of Serbia: Your future lies in the EU, much hard work is being invested to make it a reality

António Costa congratulated the citizens of Serbia on Europe Day and stated that the European Union sees Serbia as a future member, assessing that now is the time for the country to leave behind the legacy of the past and turn toward a shared European future.

As he emphasized, he was addressing the citizens of Serbia as future members of the EU.

“On Europe Day, we celebrate our common European project, the moment when our founders chose unity over division and cooperation over conflict. On the ashes of the Second World War, they decided to build a future of peace, freedom, and prosperity,” Costa said.

He stressed that considerable effort is being invested to ensure Serbia becomes a member of the European Union.

“We believe that your future lies in the European Union. Much hard work is being invested to make this a reality. The time has come to leave behind the legacy of the past and embrace our shared European future. Long live Europe,” the President of the European Council emphasized.
