Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric stated on the occasion of Victory Day that, for Serbia, this day carries special historical weight, but also represents the conviction that no idea founded on intolerance and oppression can endure in the face of justice and humanity.

“Victory Day is one of those historic dates that signify far more than the end of a war. It reminds us that even in the darkest moments of history, when violence sought to overpower reason and hatred attempted to suppress human dignity, there were those who chose courage over fear, sacrifice over silence, and freedom over submission,” Djuric wrote on the social network “X.”

He added that the victory over fascism was not merely the collapse of a destructive ideology.

“It affirmed the belief that no idea based on intolerance and oppression can survive against the power of justice and humanity. For Serbia, this day carries particular historical significance, bearing witness to the pride, suffering, and perseverance of our ancestors, who deeply understood that there are struggles which transcend borders and require the shared commitment of humanity,” Djuric stated.

He emphasized that remembrance is not merely a look into the past; it is a warning that peace is not self-sustaining, that freedom is not secured forever, and that every generation has a duty to preserve the values paid for with human lives.

“May the memory of those who rose against fascism guide us toward a future founded on peace, understanding, and the wisdom to recognize the lessons of history as our own responsibility,” the head of Serbian diplomacy concluded.
