Former judge of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo Kadri Kryeziu assessed that, if a president is not elected by October 6, Kosovo could go to early elections, Kosovo Press reports.

“We have a constitutional vacuum here, but based on legal and political logic, the president of the Assembly, who has been re-elected, should continue to perform the function for another six months, that is, from the starting point. Therefore, the office of the president should not remain vacant, bearing in mind that it is a very important institution for Kosovo. This is related to Chapter 11 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, which also provides for extraordinary circumstances, as well as other situations that are not usual in the Republic of Kosovo,” he said.

Kryeziu added that this situation is linked to Chapter 11 of the Constitution of Kosovo, which provides for certain situations, including a state of emergency.

“The critical deadline is based on the Constitutional Court's ruling, which states that the president must be elected by October 6. After October 6, based on the Constitutional Court's decision, we must go to early elections,” Kryeziu said.

Meanwhile, PDK and the Alliance have requested that the Assembly session be convened on October 3 to consider and vote on amendments to the Law on the Specialist Chambers.

These parties have called for parliamentary procedures to be accelerated so that the draft law can be considered in both readings by October 6.
