Council of Albanian Ambassadors: Kosovo Independence Day should be declared an official holiday in Albania
The Council of Albanian Ambassadors proposed to the Parliament of Albania that February 17, the Independence Day of Kosovo, be declared an official national holiday in Albania, Gazeta Express reports.
"Assessing that February 17, 2008, the day of the declaration of independence of Kosovo, is one of the most important events in our national history, the day of fulfillment of the century-old aspiration of our people on the path of strengthening identity, national unity and integration into Euro-Atlantic structures, a day that inspires every Albanian, a great event to which Albanians around the world contributed, with the strong support of the US, EU, NATO, and other allied and friendly countries, the Council of Albanian Ambassadors sent an official request to the Parliament to declare this date an official holiday of Albania," the statement published on the Council's official website reads.
The request further states that the Council of Albanian Ambassadors believes that such a decision would be supported by every Albanian, wherever they live and regardless of their political beliefs.
