Kosovo’s caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti was described as obstructionist during yesterday’s session of the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs, which examined developments in the Western Balkans and the Belgrade–Pristina dialogue.

During a special hearing of the Committee, Congressman Keith Self asked:

“Do career bureaucrats at the State Department view Albin Kurti’s approach as obstructionist?”
Three experts responded to Self’s question — American professor Edward P. Joseph, Luke Coffey, and Max Primorac.

Joseph answered “yes,” Coffey replied “more yes than no,” and Primorac also said “yes,” confirming that Kurti is indeed perceived as obstructionist.

Self explained that the hearing of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs was dedicated to developments in the Western Balkans, with particular focus on Kosovo, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“The purpose of this hearing is to establish balance in the Balkans. I hope all sides will work in a manner that serves U.S. interests, as we remain committed to peace and prosperity for the people of this region. In the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the Western Balkans remains the most unstable region in Europe,” Congressman Self stated in his opening remarks.
