Lucic: With the US administration always about the company’s operations in Kosovo as well
The CEO of Telekom Srbija, Vladimir Lucic, stated today that during his stay in the United States he discussed the company’s operations in Kosovo in meetings with representatives of the new US administration.
“In those conversations at the State Department, the US Department of Commerce, and Congress, I always mention our sensitive issue, our operations in Kosovo and Metohija. That was the topic this time as well. I presented our problem of not receiving the third license,” Lucic explained for TV Prva.
He said that whenever he is in the United States, he will raise the issue of Kosovo in meetings until Telekom knows that its company in Kosovo operates under the same conditions as the others, until the employees are safe, and until the possibility of receiving a third license is granted so that the company can operate across the entire territory.
Lucic noted that during his recent visit to the US, he also spoke with Brendan Hanrahan, the most influential official responsible for Europe and Eurasia, who, as he said, knows Serbia very well.
He added that the visit also included a ceremonial event attended by members of Congress, related to the expansion of Newsmax into Europe.
Lucic announced that Newsmax will begin operating in Albania on 1 December, followed by expansion into Eastern Europe, with operations in Poland planned to open in April.
“For Serbia, this is a major business challenge and recognition, because the most influential US media company granted us the license to cover Europe, and from Belgrade at that,” Lucic said.
He stated that the discussions at the State Department showed how friendly the current US administration’s relations with Serbia are.
Lucic said that he always tries to build the best possible relations with the US administration and companies.
He emphasized that for Telekom’s next stage of development, relations with digital companies such as Amazon and Meta are important, as well as with major US financial institutions and funds.
He pointed out that Telekom Srbija is the first company that will implement a project with the US Export–Import Bank.
Lucic said that the company is nearing a total of 30 startups, and that in cooperation with American funds they will try to elevate them to a higher level.
“In terms of digital security, it is important for us to be aligned with US companies,” Lucic underlined.
He said he expects Telekom Srbija to begin operating as a mobile operator in the US by June, thereby connecting the diaspora with the homeland.
Lucic also noted that Telekom Srbija is the only operator that provides legal access to television channels from the Balkans, and that in the United States, with the help of local authorities, it is working on detecting and shutting down platforms for illegal viewing.
Regarding the 5G network in Serbia, he emphasized that he expects the network to begin operating in major cities starting in December, after RATEL allocates the licenses.
According to him, the 5G network provides an environment for the development of artificial intelligence and will enable startups to develop new ideas.
