Dedaj: Kallas's visit comes at the worst possible time for Kosovo
Former Ambassador of Kosovo to North Macedonia, Gjergj Dedaj, stated that the visit of the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, comes at a difficult moment for Kosovo, Front Online reports.
He emphasized that under the current circumstances, with Kosovo lacking both a functioning parliament and government, it is hard to expect any concrete benefits from Kallas’s visit.
“In such a situation, it is difficult to speak of a visit that could bring any progress or success for Kosovo. It is a major handicap that Ms. Kallas is arriving in Kosovo at such a fragile moment, finding the country in a deep political crisis, without credible institutions, and without a functioning parliament or government,” Dedaj stressed.
Speaking about Kosovo's institutional representatives, Dedaj criticized their legitimacy.
“On one hand, we have Vjosa Osmani, who lacks political support and has thus undermined the institutional and state legitimacy. On the other hand, we have MP Albin Kurti, who also lacks both the legitimacy and legality to institutionally, governmentally, and nationally represent the Republic of Kosovo,” he said.
According to him, the political deadlock and institutional collapse have placed Kosovo in a difficult position regarding dignified representation and taking responsibility before Kallas.
“The political stalemate and institutional collapse place Kosovo in a tough position when it comes to dignified representation and assuming state responsibilities before Ms. Kallas and the EU, whether in regard to the continuation of dialogue with Serbia or other issues requiring progress from the EU and international partners toward the Republic of Kosovo,” Dedaj stated.
He concluded that no significant progress can be expected under the current circumstances.
“In this situation of political destabilization and the pitiful state of Kosovo’s diplomacy and statehood, it is difficult to expect any success or concrete results from Ms. Kaja Kallas’s visit to Kosovo,” he said.
