Djuric and Herzog discuss alignment of Serbia, Israel, and the United States in areas of shared interest
Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric met today with Israeli President Isaac Herzog to discuss aligning the actions of Serbia, Israel, and the United States in areas of shared interest.
Djuric noted that the partnership between Serbia and Israel has been elevated to a higher level over the past few days.
“It was my pleasure to meet with the President of the State of Israel, Isaac Herzog. We reviewed the positive developments in Serbia–Israel relations over the past few days, which have raised our partnership to a notably higher level of mutual trust, and focused on how to translate this new phase into concrete results through joint efforts,” Marko Djuric wrote on the social network X.
He also discussed with Herzog the alignment of Serbia, Israel, and the United States, taking into account the close relations between Washington and Tel Aviv.
“Our discussion also touched on the broader regional and global picture, including how Serbia, Israel, and the United States could better align their actions where our interests overlap, bearing in mind Israel’s close strategic ties with Washington,” Djuric stated.
According to a statement from the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was noted during the meeting in Jerusalem, held in a cordial atmosphere, that—building on traditionally strong ties between the two states and peoples—this visit and the strategic dialogue mark the beginning of a new phase in bilateral relations between Serbia and Israel.
“Recalling President Herzog’s visit to Serbia in September 2024, as well as the recent meeting with President Aleksandar Vucic on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, the interlocutors agreed that intensive political dialogue provides a solid foundation for strengthening bilateral relations,” the statement reads, adding that President Herzog extended his greetings to the President of Serbia and invited President Vucic to visit Israel.
“Satisfaction was expressed with the launch of a strategic dialogue in the fields of economy, artificial intelligence, education, and technology, which will bring tangible benefits to the citizens of both countries. Referring to the similar historical experiences and suffering endured by the Serbian and Jewish peoples, Minister Djuric particularly emphasized the importance of preserving the culture of remembrance as a key element,” the Ministry’s statement adds.
As further stated, the head of Serbian diplomacy informed President Herzog about the difficult position of Serbs, the unilateral actions of Pristina, and the institutional violence to which the Serbian people in Kosovo are exposed on a daily basis, as well as the refusal of the Pristina authorities to fulfill obligations under the Brussels Agreement. Djuric stressed that Serbia remains committed to constructive dialogue and respect for international law.
The interlocutors also discussed regional issues, Serbia’s European path, as well as key topics on the international stage, the statement concludes.
