The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Marko Djuric, met with the European Union Special Representative for the Belgrade–Pristina Dialogue, Peter Sørensen, affirming Belgrade’s commitment to the normalization process while warning about politically motivated proceedings against Serbs in Kosovo that are creating an atmosphere of insecurity.

The meeting addressed the Special Representative’s plans to reinvigorate a productive dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina at the technical level, as well as topics of mutual interest that could potentially form part of the future dialogue agenda.

The Serbian Foreign Minister emphasized that Belgrade consistently supports the normalization process and shares with the EU a clear and common interest in ensuring progress in this endeavor.

Djuric stressed that greater attention must be given to the situation on the ground as the dialogue moves forward, noting that, so far, "the greatest threats and obstacles to productive engagement have stemmed precisely from Pristina’s unilateral actions and the negative political climate created thereby," as stated in the press release.

"Minister Djuric expressed particular concern over politically motivated judicial proceedings targeting Serbs, which aim to create an atmosphere of legal and existential insecurity among the Serbian population in Kosovo and Metohija, appealing to the EU to use its influence to prevent this form of political persecution," the statement continued.

It further noted that Minister Djuric wished Special Representative Sørensen success in his future work, assuring him that he can always count on Belgrade’s constructive approach to the process of normalizing relations with Pristina.
