Djuric with Michele Sison: Unprecedented terror of Kurti's regime against Serbs in Kosovo
The Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Djuric, met today in Washington with Michele Sison, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs at the State Department, with whom he discussed the situation in Kosovo.
Djuric emphasized that Serbs in Kosovo are facing unprecedented terror from Kurti's regime and are experiencing daily violations of basic human, economic, and political rights, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In this regard, Djuric stated that Belgrade advocates for peace in the region and dialogue as a mechanism for the survival of Serbs in Kosovo, but that it will continue to insist on the implementation of the agreements reached, through the measures recently proposed by the Government of Serbia.
"We will continue to appeal to the entire international community to once again prioritize the process of normalization between Belgrade and Pristina on their political agenda," Minister Djuric stated.
With this in mind, the head of Serbian diplomacy particularly emphasized the importance of the role of UNMIK, as a key framework for maintaining peace and stability in Kosovo.
The meeting also touched on the most current political and international issues, as well as cooperation within multilateral organizations and forums.
Reflecting on Serbia's history of participation in multinational operations under the auspices of the United Nations and the European Union, Djuric highlighted that Serbia ranks first among contributing countries in the Southeast European region, considering the number of peacekeepers engaged worldwide.
According to him, this has positioned Serbia as a responsible and credible partner in maintaining peace and security globally.
Djuric also used the opportunity to inform his counterpart and invite her to attend an event on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, dedicated to the upcoming international Expo 2027 exhibition, which Serbia will host and where it will be promoted as a country of innovation, new technologies, and digitalization.
