Djuric on participation in the OAS General Assembly: The struggle for Kosovo and Metohija continues across all meridians
At the conclusion of his participation in the General Assembly of the Organization of American States in Panama, Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Djuric, emphasized that it is important for Serbia to secure partners in the international community, including those that are geographically distant, in support of its territorial integrity, sovereignty, and principled positions. He stressed that the struggle for Kosovo and Metohija, as well as other national priorities, continues across all meridians.
Djuric announced that Serbia and Panama had signed an agreement that would allow Serbian citizens to travel to Panama without visas.
“This is important for the strength of our passport, because the more countries you can visit visa-free, the more valuable the passport becomes, and the better the country’s international standing. We have also signed an agreement on cooperation between our diplomatic academies. It is important for Serbia to gain partners in the international community, including those that are geographically distant, in support of our territorial integrity, sovereignty, and principled positions. Serbia seeks partnerships with countries that support the peaceful settlement of disputes, international law, and pragmatic cooperation, as well as those generally interested in participating in Expo,” Djuric said.
The Minister also noted that he had met with representatives of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, a country that does not recognize the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo and which will participate in Expo 2027.
“For us, there are no small or large countries. We want to have as many friends as there are countries in the world. This is important both for Serbia’s position in Europe and for our economy,” Djuric stressed.
He shared his impression from the OAS General Assembly that, despite the challenges it faces, the atmosphere in Central and Latin America appears more stable and positive than that on the European continent.
“This should serve as a warning and a wake-up call that Europe must accelerate consolidation, rapprochement, and reconciliation, because global competition and the rapid pace of developments in technology and international security no longer allow the current situation to persist. We are witnessing hesitation regarding enlargement, political tensions, and even armed conflict in the east. All of this places our continent, to which we are directly connected despite being a proudly sovereign country, in a position that is far from optimal,” Djuric explained.
The Serbian Foreign Minister expressed satisfaction with the results of his visit to Panama and reiterated that Serbia would continue to defend its positions worldwide.
“The struggle for Kosovo and Metohija, as well as for our other national goals and priorities, must continue and will continue across all meridians,” Djuric underlined.
He also announced that he would travel from Panama on an official visit to Brazil.
“I will be the first Serbian foreign minister in 15 years to pay an official visit to one of the world’s largest economies—a country that supports us on numerous issues and represents enormous potential for economic and broader cooperation. Undoubtedly, one of the countries of the future,” Djuric concluded.
Meeting with the OAS Secretary General: Many Friendly States Among OAS Members Share Serbia’s Values
During a meeting with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States, Albert Ramdin, Djuric discussed the importance of multilateralism, cooperation, and dialogue in a changing international environment.
According to a statement issued by Serbia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Djuric said during the meeting that it was a great honor for him to attend the OAS General Assembly in Panama once again this year as Serbia’s representative.
He briefed Ramdin on the intensive preparations for the hosting of Expo 2027 and expressed hope that the OAS would recognize the significance of this global event and join the many international organizations that have already confirmed their participation.
Djuric also invited Ramdin to visit Serbia and attend Expo 2027 in Belgrade, which will become a venue for international meetings, dialogue, innovation, and the presentation of humanity’s finest achievements during the coming year. He expressed his expectation that Belgrade would have the opportunity to host as many OAS member states as possible at this prestigious world exhibition.
The Minister reiterated that Serbia attaches great importance to the activities of the OAS, where it has held observer status since 2002, emphasizing that Serbia seeks to strengthen cooperation with the organization’s member states and build bridges of cooperation in this part of the world as well.
The head of Serbian diplomacy highlighted that it is of particular importance to Serbia that many OAS member states are friendly countries that share common values with Serbia and demonstrate understanding for Serbia’s positions and for issues important to safeguarding its national interests.
