Elek and Simic meet with Barbano: EULEX urged to increase oversight of Kosovo Police conduct toward Serbs
The President of the the Serb List, Zlatan Elek, and the head of its parliamentary group, Igor Simic, met today with the Head of EULEX, Giovanni Pietro Barbano, to discuss the current position of the Serbian people in Kosovo.
According to a statement by the Serb List, special attention during the meeting was devoted to numerous alleged violations of the rights of the Serbian community, as well as to the actions of the Kosovo Police and central-level inspection bodies, which, as they assessed, directly endanger fundamental rights and undermine the work of Serbian mayors and municipal authorities.
“Representatives of the Serb List requested that EULEX, in accordance with its mandate, remain actively engaged and expand its monitoring of the work of the Kosovo Police, as well as actively contribute to ensuring compliance with the law, police standards, and the rights of arrested and detained Serbs,” the statement said.
It is further noted that the meeting also addressed the need to find solutions regarding the implementation of laws on foreigners and vehicles. The necessity of simplifying administrative procedures for citizens was emphasized, as well as the urgent need to identify a sustainable solution that would enable the uninterrupted use of vehicles.
“The Serb List will continue to insist on the protection of the rights of the Serbian people and the consistent application of the law, with the aim of preserving peace, stability, and security for all citizens,” the statement concluded.
