Gashi calls for the demolition of the Church of Christ the Savior in Pristina
Lawyer Tome Gashi has publicly demanded that the Church of Christ the Savior in Pristina be demolished.
In a Facebook post, Gashi stated that the church is located "on someone else's land" and must be torn down.
"This building must be demolished. This building is on someone else's land. This building was constructed during the occupation. Unfortunately, we have tolerated this building for 26 years after the liberation and 17 years after independence," Gashi wrote.
The Church of Christ the Savior in Pristina was already targeted for demolition with explosives in 1999, but the attempt failed. Since then, it has repeatedly been vandalized and set on fire.
Historian Jusuf Buxhovi also called for its demolition in March this year, during an appearance on KTV in a program dedicated to the March 2004 events.
In an analysis by Kosovo Online, interlocutors warned at the time that this is a dangerous message that targets the property of the Serbian Orthodox Church, while simultaneously continuing the narrative that there is no place for Serbian history and cultural heritage in Kosovo.
The Eparchy of Raska and Prizren stated that such comments are not only a provocation, "but represent an open call for the destruction of religious sites and an obvious form of hate speech that must be unequivocally condemned by all who value peace, religious freedom, and cultural coexistence."
