German Embassy: Declaration of terrorist organizations in the north made without coordination with Germany

The decision to declare the "Civil Protection" and "Northern Brigade" as terrorist organizations was not made in coordination with Germany, the German Embassy in Pristina stated today, as reported by Klan Kosova.

"The decision was not coordinated with Germany, nor was the German government informed in advance by the Kosovo authorities about this move," the embassy said for Klan Kosova.

The response also notes that close coordination with international partners would be beneficial for Kosovo.

"It is important that any decision of this kind respects relevant laws and the principle of proportionality. We reiterate the call to the Government of Kosovo to refrain from any unilateral action that could further escalate the situation in the northern municipalities," the press service of the German Embassy in Pristina stated.

In the statement regarding the decision to declare the "Civil Protection" and "Northern Brigade" as terrorist organizations, Minister of Interior Xhelal Svecla said that the decision had been made in coordination with allies.

"We continuously coordinate with all our allies, sometimes we agree, sometimes we don't. There is no doubt that we coordinated for this step," he said at yesterday's press conference following the government session where the decision to put the two mentioned organizations on the list of terrorist organizations was made.

The US State Department also announced that the Government of Kosovo had not made the decision to declare the "Civil Protection" and "Northern Brigade" as terrorist organizations in coordination with the United States and other international partners.
