German Embassy: Vacant positions in Kosovo’s judicial institutions reserved for Serbs should be filled as soon as possible

The German Embassy in Pristina said that vacant positions in Kosovo’s judicial institutions reserved for Serbs should be filled by members of this community as soon as possible, through a fair and transparent process.

Regarding the decision by the Kosovo Judicial Council to reject the request by Serbian judges and judicial staff to withdraw their resignations and return to the judicial system, the German Embassy told Kosovo Online that Kosovo’s Constitution defines Kosovo as a multi-ethnic society.

“Both the Brussels Agreement of 19 April 2013 and the Agreement on Justice of 9 February 2015 contain clear provisions on the representation of Kosovo Serb judicial personnel in districts where Kosovo Serbs are the majority.  The participation of Kosovo Serb judicial personnel is essential to provide legal services for majority Kosovo Serb communities in their language,” the Embassy said in response to questions from our portal.

As they added, vacant positions in the judicial institutions reserved for Serbs should be filled by members of this community as soon as possible.
