Germany’s Federal Foreign Office, commenting on the visit of the EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue, Peter Sorensen, to Berlin, told Gazeta Express that it continues to support the “legacy” of former Chancellor Olaf Scholz regarding the normalization process between Kosovo and Serbia.

Without disclosing details of the confidential talks Sorensen held during his meetings, a spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry stated that Berlin officially supports Special Envoy Sorensen in his efforts and calls on both Kosovo and Serbia to engage constructively in resolving their differences and implementing the Ohrid Agreement.

"Together with our partners, we are committed to continuing and intensifying the dialogue. The EU-facilitated dialogue is the only sustainable path toward long-term peace and stability in the region. We fully support the efforts of EU Special Envoy Peter Sorensen and continue to urge both parties to engage constructively in the discussions to resolve their differences. We call on both sides to implement the Ohrid Agreement and to participate constructively,” the spokesperson told Gazeta Express.

Berlin also highlighted the benefits achieved through the dialogue, including progress on license plates and energy issues in northern Kosovo.

“Dialogue has brought progress on a range of contentious issues in recent years—for example, the energy dispute over power supply in the north, or the mutual recognition of vehicle license plates. We also advocate for pragmatic solutions and increased regional cooperation within the framework of the Berlin Process, which will also have a positive impact on both Kosovo and Serbia in the region,” the spokesperson concluded.

Special Envoy Peter Sorensen officially visited Germany on May 20. He also held meetings in Pristina and Belgrade as part of efforts to revive negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia.
