Gudzic: Kurti lacks coalition potential
Historian Aleksandar Gudzic stated that Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti lacks coalition potential and has also lost the support of part of the international community, making it difficult for him to lead the Kosovo government for a third time.
Gudzic emphasized that, at present, all political entities in Kosovo have an interest in delaying the formation of the government. However, he believes that an opposition-led but short-term government will eventually be formed.
"Kosovo has entered a political crisis after the elections, and all actors on the political scene will try to postpone the formation of the government. This benefits the current ruling administration, which is operating in a caretaker capacity and using this period to appoint officials to various institutions. The opposition also benefits from delaying the government formation, as it gives them leverage for further political attacks against Albin Kurti. At some point, in my opinion, an opposition-led government will be formed, and they will wait until October, when local elections are scheduled. I believe parliamentary elections will also be held at that time, allowing all political parties in Kosovo to use the opportunity to secure the best possible results at both the parliamentary and local levels," Gudzic said.
As he added, this scenario will only be possible if the international community does not intervene to shape the government, as it has done in previous years.
"This will happen only if representatives of the international community do not dictate the formation of a new government, as they have in the past. Let’s recall how, in previous years, the international community, primarily the United States, installed Atifete Jahjaga as the President of Kosovo," Gudzic added.
Regarding potential coalitions that could help form a "Kurti 3" government, he reiterated that Albin Kurti lacks coalition potential and no longer enjoys the backing of a segment of the international community.
"Kurti used his stable majority to politically confront other actors. He has no coalition potential. As for the international community, it has lost trust and patience with him due to his unilateral actions. In short, he has become unpredictable to a part of the international community," Gudzic concluded.
