Sopjani: 50-50 chance of forming "Kurti 3" government

Lawyer and former chief inspector of the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (KIA), Shkelzen Sopjani, says that the chances of forming a Kosovo government at this moment are evenly split, and that, f the government is formed, it will be short-lived, and Kosovo could return to parliamentary elections as early as next year.

As he noted, the parties that won the most votes in the February 9 elections are far from reaching an agreement, with each opposition party having demands that, according to him, are impossible for the other parties to fulfill.

"The chances are 50-50. From what I see, the Albanian parties are nowhere near an agreement because they have set up barriers. The LDK wants the prime minister's position, but no one is willing to give it to a third party because it is crucial for every party. The PDK refuses to work with Kurti under any circumstances, as does the AAK. So, we will have to see whether a government will be formed or not," Sopjani said.

On the other hand, if the ruling Self-Determination Movement secures the 61 MPs needed for a parliamentary majority and forms the "Kurti 3" government, Sopjani predicts that it will be short-lived and that osovo could then hold parliamentary elections alongside the presidential election next year.

"If a government is formed, it will not be strong. It could be composed of Self-Determination, a few MPs from other parties, and non-Serb minority representatives. However, with such a government, we would likely be heading to new elections by next year at the latest, as there would not be enough votes to elect the country's president," Sopjani concluded.
