The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade has sent official requests to the Criminal Police Directorate of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia and to the Security Information Agency, with the aim of identifying the individuals who, on July 18, presenting themselves as members of the Kosovo Police, arrested and transferred Igor Popovic, Deputy Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, to Pristina.

The Prosecutor’s Office initiated this procedure to determine whether the event contains elements of the criminal offense of kidnapping under Article 134, Paragraph 3 in connection with Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code, according to a statement published on the website of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade.

Popovic was arrested on Friday evening at Brnjak after addressing attendees at a memorial for Serbs from Orahovac who died during the conflict with members of the KLA.

He was transferred yesterday to a detention unit in Gnjilane.
