Jeremic: Serbia has shown it is for a peaceful solution, Pristina has not succeeded in disrupting our position
Former Serbian ambassador to Germany, Zoran Jeremic, emphasized that at yesterday's UN Security Council session on Kosovo, Serbia demonstrated a clear stance in favor of peaceful problem-solving, dialogue, and compromise, highlighting that Pristina's attempt to overshadow the message from official Belgrade by reverting to the past was unsuccessful.
Jeremic mentioned that it is very important for Serbia to continue to bring up the Kosovo issue at all levels, to prevent its opponents from ignoring its interests.
He notes that yesterday's session, although a regular routine session, indicates the importance that Serbia places on the issue and the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.
"Representatives of Kosovo actually showed how they view it, other ambassadors who participated in the debate mostly expressed well-known positions that ended on a rhetorical principle, to present the views of their countries and that was it. But representatives of Kosovo tried again to create some kind of performance by bringing in women who tried to represent a certain image of the past," Jeremic told Kosovo Online.
Pristina returns to the past because, the diplomat points out, it is a "card" that they try to use best for propaganda purposes.
This is, he adds, their way of reaching their target group, Western countries, and leaving an impression to gain support.
"They obviously have good PR advisors who know what works with the target group they are interested in as a support group, which are certain circles in certain Western countries. It obviously works for them. I haven't seen reactions in today’s press in those countries, but one would assume that it would always be put in the forefront. However, it is important that Pristina's attempt did not succeed in overshadowing what was the message on our side," emphasized Jeremic.
Serbia, he messages, seeks a peaceful solution, dialogue, and compromise, as shown in yesterday's session. The speech presented yesterday on behalf of the Serbian side points out the true line of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti's policy, the diplomat noted, adding that Pristina in no way managed to disrupt or disturb Serbia's position.
"I see that the speech presented everything that needed to indicate the true line of Kurti's policy and those who follow him, and they continue their story in the way we are accustomed to, for which they have certain support. It showed that our position was neither disturbed nor harmed by what they do," he stressed.
He stated that the sessions at the UN are of exceptional importance and that they are opportunities to hear the voice of Serbia and those who think differently from some Western countries.
"The very attempt to remove Kosovo from the UN agenda is an attempt to eliminate Serbia as a factor that can influence it, and that is why it is very important to insist on holding sessions at the highest level every time. Resolution 1244 is a UN obligation. The fact that the dialogue has moved to the EU is just one of the paths for seeking solutions, but it does not signify that it frees the UN from the responsibility they have for the region and for peace in the world," Jeremic explains.
Asked whether yesterday's session and pro-Serbian views could contribute to the formation of the CSM, Jeremic says that each ambassador protocolarily states what they have on behalf of the country they represent, and issues like the CSM are resolved at other levels.
"I don't believe that the views of some countries will influence the formation of the CSM, they have heard it from much higher levels, but they haven't done anything, but that is already a usual exercise. Everyone comes, says what they have, and they are then satisfied with that, knowing that the resolution of this problem ends at other levels," he concluded.
