Kamberi: It seems the Trump administration is not very active regarding developments in Kosovo and the Balkans
Belgzim Kamberi, associate at the “Musine Kokalari” Institute, believes that the fact there has been no US ambassador in Pristina for five months may be the first indication that President Donald Trump’s administration is not particularly dynamic when it comes to political developments in Kosovo and the Balkans in general, and that Kosovo has not been among its priorities so far.
“There is no visible dynamism from the new American administration in the Balkans, nor regarding the relationship between Kosovo and Serbia. Whether the absence of an ambassador in Pristina is proof that the US administration does not intend to engage much with the Balkans, leaving the region to the European Union, or whether it is due to some bureaucratic delay, remains to be seen. Perhaps they are also waiting for Kosovo to form a new government, and only then will an ambassador be appointed,” Kamberi told Kosovo Online.
Based on what has been seen so far, he says, it appears that the Trump administration is not very active concerning developments in Kosovo and the Balkans.
He also believes it would be logical for Washington to send an ambassador to Pristina who is familiar with the circumstances in the Balkans and the nature of the Kosovo–Serbia relationship.
