Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Dusan Kozarev, who is on an official visit to Greece, met with Secretary General of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maira Myrogianni. Kozarev emphasized that Serbia highly values Greece’s principled stance on the non-recognition of Kosovo’s unilaterally declared independence, and informed his counterpart about the difficult situation faced by the Serbian population in Kosovo.

Kozarev and Myrogianni expressed satisfaction with the high level of overall relations and cooperation between the two countries, which is underpinned by friendly ties and the historical closeness of the Serbian and Greek peoples.

Kozarev reaffirmed Serbia’s interest in further intensifying political dialogue at the high and highest levels, as well as its commitment to continuing the development of cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in its release.

He expressed confidence that the strengthening of ties between the two foreign ministries—including their respective general secretariats—would be significantly supported by the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation signed during the visit of Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric to Athens in December 2024.

He noted that the Memorandum also provides a framework for continued joint activities in the field of diplomatic training.

Kozarev reiterated Serbia’s appreciation of Greece’s position on the non-recognition of Kosovo’s independence and briefed his interlocutor on the dire situation of the Serbian community in Kosovo due to repression and unilateral actions by Albin Kurti’s administration.

He also addressed the situation in the wider region, with particular focus on Bosnia and Herzegovina, underlining that Serbia will maintain its constructive approach aimed at preserving peace in the Balkans and will continue to strongly support the Serbian people in the Republic of Srpska and its institutions.

During the meeting, it was confirmed that Greece will continue to provide unwavering support to Serbia on its path to full membership in the European Union.

Kozarev welcomed Greece’s formal confirmation of its participation in the Specialized Expo 2027, which will be hosted by Belgrade.

He highlighted the significant economic achievements Serbia has made over the past decade, guided by the modern vision of President Vucic, noting that Serbia’s GDP is expected to surpass 100 billion euros by 2027.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the one-billion-euro trade exchange and the growing volume of tourism on both sides, acknowledging the potential for further enhancement, especially through Greece’s inclusion in the regional electronic toll collection system and the acceleration of customs and passport procedures.

The two officials also noted the important role played by both diasporas in enhancing the international reputations of Serbia and Greece, and expressed interest in cooperation and the exchange of experiences in this area.
