Sanja Krtinic, the representative of the civic initiative for the removal of the mayor of North Mitrovica, says to Kosovo Online that she assumes they will collect a sufficient number of signatures for the petition today.

Krtinic noted that today at 9 a.m., the sports hall in North Mitrovica had been opened for citizens who were coming in large numbers to sign the petition for the removal of the mayor of the municipality of North Mitrovica.

"It's important to mention that 3,640 votes are needed for the mayor's removal, and my assumption is that we will collect those today, or that an even larger number of citizens will sign," Krtinic emphasized.

She stated that all citizens from Kosovska Mitrovica with a Kosovo ID card could come and sign the petition for the mayor's removal.

"It's very important to mention that we faced significant obstruction from the beginning of the process until today; the law was interpreted in various ways. However, we can say that we succeeded because we know the law and we were persistent, but there was a lack of understanding from the chairman of the Assembly of the Municipality of North Mitrovica. We received a document for signing the petition, however, as the Administrative Instruction requires, we were supposed to get approval for the use of public space. We didn't get that on time; we received it two days ago, and for that reason, this petition is opening for citizens today," Krtinic emphasized.

According to her, the next steps are "checking all the papers from our side, whether they are regular, whether they are properly signed, and so on, to avoid any problems and obstructions from the Central Election Commission, the chairman, or anyone else." After that, she says, they will submit the petition, and CEC and others will decide.

"I have to mention that we've been waiting for this for a year because we believe the mayor was illegally, illegitimately elected in these elections and does not represent the voice of the people, the Serbian people, or other communities living in this area," Krtinic stated.

Leaders of the Serb List have also signed the petition for the removal of the mayor of North Mitrovica.
