The very fact that President Isaac Herzog chose to travel from Israel to Serbia during a time of war is a clear indication of the importance Israel places on Serbia and the relations between the two countries. The visit is also a clear sign of the development of those relations, and I expect that after this visit, there may be reciprocal visits from Serbia to Israel, which would strengthen ties between the two nations, said Avital Leibovich, director of the Jerusalem office of the American Jewish Committee (AJC), in an interview with Kosovo Online.

Herzog is arriving in Serbia tomorrow, and in the interview published by Kosovo Online on Sunday, Leibovich noted that the recognition of Kosovo by Israel, under the mediation of the United States four years ago, had an impact on relations between Israel and Serbia, but emphasized the need to move forward in fostering relations and mutual understanding.

"This issue is in the background, but the potential for relations between Israel and Serbia is enormous. The question is whether both countries want to tap into this potential and maximize it. I think Herzog's visit is a clear indication of this direction. Despite the war in Israel, the plane I arrived on (to Belgrade) was packed. There wasn't a single empty seat, which means that Israelis see Serbia as a destination for both visits and business. I see great potential for cooperation in tourism, the economy, investments, high technology, agriculture, water technology, education... The list is endless," said Avital Leibovich.

She also emphasized that Serbia has a Jewish community with strong ties to the Jewish community in Israel, which is very important for the country.
