Lucic: Telekom has launched a "counteroffensive" in Kosovo, and we will participate in the allocation of part of the spectrum
Vladimir Lucic, General Director of Telekom Srbija, stated today that Telekom is the largest Serbian company in Kosovo and announced that he will soon return to Pristina for the upcoming allocation of part of the spectrum for 4G and 5G networks, which, according to him, his company has the right to under the Brussels Agreement, RTV reports.
Lucic mentioned that after defending against Pristina's attempt to shut down Telekom in Kosovo last year, the company has launched a "counteroffensive" and will not allow the spectrum allocation to proceed without its participation.
He emphasized that by the end of the year, Telekom Srbija could obtain a license to expand its mobile network across the entire territory of Kosovo.
"We are the largest Serbian company there. And now, after that defense, we've moved into a counteroffensive, and in the next two months, we will engage in significant diplomatic activities. I will go to Pristina again to meet with ambassadors, as the Pristina administration is deciding to allocate part of the spectrum for 4G and 5G. We will not allow this allocation to proceed without us. As we've always stated, the Brussels Agreement clearly defines the terms regarding mobile telephony, and we have a temporary license until the third license is granted. Now is the time to resolve this," Lucic said during an appearance on Prva.
He also noted that Pristina's initial plan was to allocate the spectrum without Telekom's involvement.
"Such an approach would favor the two Pristina-based operators, both of which are underperforming. Their main operator in Pristina is facing financial difficulties, with frequent strikes and unpaid wages. This would simply be a violation of the Brussels Agreement. I hope that, from the situation last year when they thought they could shut us down, we will actually end up with a license by the end of the year to expand our mobile network across the entire territory of Kosovo and Metohija," Lucic stressed.
He expects that in this scenario, Telekom, as a mobile operator in Kosovo, will become highly popular among Albanians, who may increasingly use their network.
"And that's why they're most afraid of giving this to us. So, in the next two months, this will be our main focus," Lucic added.
