Maric: Difficult days for Serbs in Kosovo, Kurti wants to drag Serbia into a conflict with the international community
Former Member of Parliament Ljubomir Maric emphasized that with his recent actions in northern Kosovo, Albin Kurti has continued with provocations aimed at ethnic cleansing and the intent to draw Serbia into a conflict with the international community.
"His sole objective is a Kosovo without a single Serb, a Greater Albania, and the provocation of the state of Serbia. He wants to pull Serbia into a conflict with the international community. These are difficult days. Every day is harder and harder, with increasing pressure and greater oppression. The people in Kosovo are suffering like never before," Maric said in an interview with Kosovo Online.
He noted that the international community has the tools to stop Pristina's unilateral moves, but he doubts they will use them, which is why the Serbs in Kosovo do not trust them.
"Serbs in Kosovo no longer trust the international community. We know they have the tools and the means to restrain him, to restrain that wild man, but I don't see that happening. I don't expect them to do anything. Maybe they will extend some of the sanctions that the EU has imposed, but I don't expect anything more concrete from them," Maric said.
He expressed hope that changes might occur only after the elections on February 9.
"We simply have to wait. This is an election campaign and the realization of the plan for a pure Kosovo—a Greater Albania. We hope for change and that reason will prevail in the elections in Kosovo, that there will be a shift in the electoral process. As long as Kurti is in power, there will be no peace, no happiness. Not for the Albanian people, nor for the Serbian people. As long as he is in power, there is no future," Maric emphasized.
He added that yesterday's action in the north should not only be seen as a continuation of "oppression and attacks on the Serbian people" but also as a reaction to the visit of the French president and the signing of several economic agreements, including the procurement of 12 Rafale fighter jets.
"His only goal is to drive the Serbs out of Kosovo and provoke a reaction from Serbia, to cause harm. Whenever we have a significant event, whenever it is clear that the state of Serbia is growing and progressing, whenever we receive messages about how much Serbia is developing and how the Serbian economy is rising, we see a move by Kurti. He simply cannot stand the fact that the Serbs are a united people, that Serbia is getting stronger every day," Maric concluded.
