Marjanovic: Self-organization of Serbs a consequence of permanent terror since 1999

Milica Marjanovic, an assistant at the Department of Sociology at the Faculty in North Mitrovica, discussing the events in Banjska from two months ago, states for Kosovo Online that the self-organization of Serbs emerged as a consequence of violated rights, for which responsibility cannot be shifted to Belgrade. She also points out that EULEX, as the EU's civilian mission, was supposed to be in Banjska that day, but, she says, that did not happen.

In Banjska, on September 24, there was a conflict between a group of Serbs and the Kosovo police, which had a tragic outcome in which three Serbs were killed and one Kosovo Police officer died.

"Belgrade unequivocally should not bear responsibility for organizing the citizens because this self-organization stems from the permanent terror since 1999. When I say it lasts, I mean the thwarting of all basic human rights – the right to freedom, movement, the right to vote, the right to opinion," Marjanovic says.

She adds that the only role of KFOR is to protect Serbs, but it does not fulfill that role.

"On the other hand, UNMIK as a civilian mission is constantly frowned upon in the eyes of Albanians, and EULEX, as the EU's civilian mission, is biased and compromised, and although it should have been in Banjska, that did not happen. Of course, anyone who wants to see reality will understand this. On the other hand, their joint projects, such as the false state of Kosovo led by Kurti, are slowly abandoning their obedience," Marjanovic says.

Pressures are underway on Serbia to recognize Kosovo, which, she believes, will not happen.

"Serbia will, of course, not accept that, and they have to force their darling, Kurti, to accept some compromise in order to present it as a success in their world. Of course, it will not be any success, especially not the way they wanted it. However, they need to deceive their public opinion," our interviewee says.

Marjanovic reminds of Resolution 1244 and the Brussels Agreement which state that the CSM should be formed and clearly define the competencies the CSM should have.

"The guarantor of Resolution 1244 is the UN, and the guarantor of the Brussels Agreement is the EU. In this regard, we expect international law to be implemented," Marjanovic says.
