The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that Serbia is aligning its visa regime with the EU visa regime as part of its efforts to harmonize with European Union standards. All necessary reforms will be implemented by the end of 2026 to meet the requirements for full membership, NIN reported.

"By aligning with the EU visa policy, Serbia is actively participating in security measures to combat illegal migration, crime, and other forms of cross-border unlawful activities," the ministry stated.

They also emphasized that Serbia will carry out all necessary reforms by the end of 2026 to fulfill the conditions for full EU membership, which remains one of Serbia’s key foreign policy priorities.

"The EU accession process consists of two equally important components—technical and political. A successful accession process requires a comprehensive approach, balancing technical reforms and political strategy. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs represents Serbia on the international stage, working to strengthen bilateral relations with EU member states, build Serbia’s credibility, and address geopolitical issues that could impact the accession process," the statement reads.

In this context, the MFA plays a key role in presenting the implemented reforms and communicating with EU institutions and member states to ensure further progress in the negotiation process.

As the lead body of the Negotiating Group for Chapter 31, the MFA is also responsible for aligning Serbia’s foreign policy with the EU’s common foreign policy declarations, decisions, and measures throughout the negotiation period, up until full alignment just before accession to EU membership.
