At this moment, it seems that both the government and the opposition in Kosovo want elections, but there is no agreement on how to achieve them, as the government believes that the dissolution of the Assembly should be voted on, while the opposition wants the Prime Minister to resign, says Marko Milenkovic from the NGO "New Social Initiative" for Kosovo Online.

He is convinced that it suits Self-Determination for the parliamentary elections in Kosovo to be held before the American elections and potential changes in both America and the European Union after their voter polling.

He adds that Self-Determination might want to create an opportunity to dissolve the Assembly together with the Democratic Party of Kosovo or with its support, for which there are not yet enough votes from other parties, since DPK is the only one that has expressed readiness to participate in this process.

"Regarding the timing of the elections, I believe that this period suits Self-Determination. They benefit from the period before the American elections and potential changes and possible changes in the European Union due to the elections. For them, it is uncertain what would happen if they waited, i.e., postponed the elections to the regular term, which is next February," says Milenkovic.

When asked whether it would be advisable to hold local elections in the four northern municipalities of Kosovo along with the early parliamentary elections for the sake of stabilizing the situation in northern Kosovo, which would require the resignation of the mayors, Milenkovic says that the scenario involving resignations and merging elections is not certain.

He notes, however, that he believes there will be certain pressures from the international community regarding the elections in the north, more through internal channels than publicly.

"I believe there is a desire from the international community to hold elections in the north and to change the government, but this desire does not exist within the ruling party in Pristina. I think that currently there is only a desire for control and that this is potentially a ground for gathering additional votes, gaining popularity in public opinion, for potential actions in the north, which is better facilitated through the control they currently have and which authorities exploit in this sense to strengthen the image of sovereignty. Therefore, it seems to me that elections in the north alongside central level elections are not realistic at this moment," says Milenkovic.
