Miletic given a fine and suspended prison sentence
Slobodan Miletic from Zvecan pleaded guilty today to two criminal charges brought against him, related to events that took place in Zvecan on May 29 of last year. According to the verdict read by Judge Vesel Ismaili, Miletic was sentenced to a two-year suspended prison sentence and a fine of 9,500 euros.
The judge stated that the detention measure against Miletic will be lifted once the fine is paid.
Miletic admitted guilt for the offenses of "endangering public officials," for which he received a two-year suspended sentence, and "participation in a gathering that commits a criminal act – hooliganism," for which a six-month prison sentence was replaced with a fine of 9,500 euros.
After the prosecutor requested that the indictment be read once again, and the accused confirmed that he understood the charges against him, the court accepted the plea agreement, and following a 30-minute break, the verdict was delivered.
Both the prosecution and defense waived their right to appeal.
Miletic was initially charged with four criminal offenses, but two charges – "unconstitutional activity" and "endangering persons under international protection" – were dropped from the indictment.
Miletic was arrested on May 10 of this year at the Jarinje crossing. He was placed in detention on May 12, where he remained for five months.
