Milovic meets with Sargeant: Reduction in KFOR presence could further jeopardize an already fragile security situation
Zvecan Mayor Dragisa Milovic met with KFOR Regional Command Commander Colonel Sam Sargeant, with whom he discussed the security situation, reports of a possible KFOR withdrawal from the main bridge over the Ibar, as well as the protection of the Visoki Decani Monastery.
At the meeting, Milovic expressed concern over these issues and stressed that any reduction in KFOR's presence and engagement could further jeopardize the already fragile security situation.
„The meeting also addressed concerning instances of institutional violence and conduct that are causing unease among residents. Particular attention was drawn to the demolition of houses and weekend homes without a prior court decision, as well as the case of Nenad Raskovic, who was reportedly seriously injured during an intervention by the Kosovo Police. Attention was also drawn to incidents involving searches of residents' homes in the Zubin Potok municipality“, the Zvecan Municipality stated.
Sargeant stressed that KFOR would take the concerns raised into account and announced an increased presence and more visible KFOR patrols in the Zvecan municipality.
He also said that KFOR would increase its oversight of the Kosovo Police in order to monitor the situation on the ground more closely and contribute to maintaining peace and security.
Deputy Mayor Ivan Todosijevic and Mayor's Chief of Staff Nenad Radovanovic also attended the meeting.
