Miskeljin: Greenland under a form of colonial rule, no parallel with Kosovo possible
Marko Miskeljin, an associate of the Center for Social Stability, does not believe that Donald Trump’s statements about Greenland should be connected to the Kosovo issue, as he explains that these are two entirely different legal problems.
Miskeljin argues that the situation around Greenland has been more of a media spectacle than a serious issue.
“When we talk about Greenland, it is a territory that belongs to the Kingdom of Denmark, but not to Denmark as a state. It has a rather interesting status with indigenous people who are not particularly inclined toward the Danish state and who, according to current research, would be willing to support joining the United States in a referendum. On the other hand, when we look at our situation, it primarily involves a flagrant violation of international law – the seizure of part of the territory of a sovereign state, which has led to the situation we face today in the world. Pandora’s box was opened in 1999,” the analyst explains.
He adds that this has often been discussed by individuals close to Trump’s administration, as well as by those whose opinions are respected.
“We have heard from Jeffrey Sachs, Oliver Stone... From this perspective, no parallel can be drawn, primarily because Greenland will decide for itself what it wants, the people of Greenland, who are still under a form of colonial rule. On the other hand, we are talking about the seizure of a part of a state’s internationally recognized territory,” Miskeljin concludes.
