Miskeljin: The US goal is regional stability; it is logical for Grenell to participate in Belgrade-Pristina dialogue
Marko Miskeljin, an associate at the Center for Social Stability, stated that the United States aims to ensure the stability of the Western Balkans and that it is logical to expect Richard Grenell to be involved in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.
"It is logical to expect that Richard Grenell, as someone well-acquainted with the entire situation and who has connections with both sides, would be involved, especially given the position he received from President Trump as his special envoy for critical areas. The US primarily aims for regional stability, so it is natural to send someone trusted. There are very few people who have more trust from Donald Trump than Richard Grenell," Miskeljin told Kosovo Online.
Miskeljin notes that Serbia could anticipate less bias, a willingness to hear both sides, and a more pragmatic approach to curbing unilateral actions by Pristina’s institutions with the new US administration.
"What we can expect is better communication. While the contact between Serbia and the outgoing administration was far from poor, there were significant differences and a certain degree of bias from the Democratic establishment. On the other hand, based on Trump’s first term, we can primarily expect pragmatism and a willingness to listen to our side, something we rarely had the chance to experience," Miskeljin said.
Better direct relations with key figures in Trump’s administration will, Miskeljin is convinced, enable a more pragmatic US approach to resolving the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and preventing escalation in Kosovo.
"In this regard, we can expect unilateral moves by Pristina’s provisional institutions to be more frequently sanctioned. Perhaps the best example of this is the way the first Kurti government fell," Miskeljin emphasized.
